We recognize that as a global manufacturer of colour cosmetic, we have a great responsibility not only to our customers but also to the people we employ, their communities and the environment. We consistently develop new means to ensure we uphold our responsibilities, such as the Faber-Castell Code of Conduct and the Faber Castell Social Charter ensuring fair employment and working conditions. Since the eighties, the Faber-Castell Group reforestation project in Prata, Brazil sustainably manages 8,200 ha of forests with 4.5 million trees, not only providing wood for our production, but also playing an important role in providing habitat to native plant and animal species, protecting watersheds, and capturing CO2 from the atmosphere via photosynthesis.

Sedex is one of the world's leading organizations that promotes compliance with and improvement of safe, ethical, and sustainable business practices and ensures good working conditions for employees within the supply chain. For us, our employees are our most valuable resource. To express this appreciation, we have the “Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit” (SMETA) carried out every two years. In each audit, our business practices and relevant documents are examined, employees are interviewed, and extensive tours of the production and office premises are carried out over the course of several days. Any anomalies or recommendations from SEDEX are then implemented internally, enabling us to achieve continuous improvement in working conditions and promise compliance with current regulations.
The Forest Stewardship Council TM (FSCTM) is an international organization that works globally to promote environmentally responsible, socially conscious, and economically viable forest management. In this effort, parts of a FSC TM forest must remain untouched and serve as a protected area. This calls for sustainable forest design and management, which is verified and confirmed for forest owners via the “Forest Management” certification program. In a further step, FSCTM requires a traceable value chain through the “FSCTM Chain of Custody” certification by certifying the processing companies, starting with the FSCTM forest up to the last production stage. To maintain a certified product, every company in the supply chain must be certified and adhere to the relevant specifications and guidelines. Furthermore, certified companies must adhere to the employment and working conditions recommended by the International Labor Organization (ILO), which also covers the social aspect of certification (both for forest management and chain of custody). Faber-Castell Cosmetics is proud to work exclusively with FSCTM or PEFC certified wood and is thus taking an important step towards more responsible business practices.
The “Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification” (PEFC) is an international organization with the aim of documenting, improving, and promoting sustainable forest management in accordance with economic, ecological, and social standards. Forest management is also used here to regulate forest design and management. Similar to FSCTM, the standard sets clear requirements for protected areas, the use of pesticides and operational planning. PEFC also expects “Chain of Custody” certification starting with the forest up to the last production stage, in order to guarantee compliance with the standard right through to the end consumer. This method of certification enables the due diligence requirements of the certification to be met as proof of legally harvested and purchased timber.
